Kondalilla Falls

We ventured around the loop and were spoilt with great views of the falls and the rich vegetation. Going around we found a sign that leads to Lake Baroon, we thought it would be worth going for a walk along the track for a while to see what we could find. There was a place called flat rock, which was 2.2 kilometres off the Kondalilla loop, we walked out there and had lunch, not a bad place to have a break. Making our way back we run into a large goanna on the path, we thought it was best not to scare it off the track but follow this friendly reptile. It was found that this goanna uses a lot of this path too, so slowly inching along in front of us, it thought it was being the tour guide and showing us the sights. Finally our mate found some food off the track and we made our way back to the Kondalilla Rock pool. The waterhole had a few people there and understandably, it’s a great swim. Jumping in is very refreshing and it’s a perfect way to end a great walk. ​On our way back to Florence we pulled into a place called Montville and tried the local Maleny gelato, while soaking up more views out onto the Sunshine Coastline.

Up in the hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland’s Blackall Range is the Kondalilla Falls. Kondalilla is an Aboriginal word for ‘rushing waters’ and with a 90 metre drop, it certainly lives up to its reputation. A walking track takes you around a 5 kilometre loop filled with lush green rainforest and pristine running water.

​ The one-hour trip up into the Sunshine Coast Hinterland takes you into another world with small quaint towns, rainforests and waterfalls. It made us quickly forget that only a half an hour away is the hustle and bustle of the peak Bruce Highway traffic. Every moment up there is absolutely enjoyable, even if it is considered posh.
