Propaganda by the Canegrowers Association, entitled ‘The Journey of the Jellybean from Paddock to Plate’ convinced us that sugar isn’t all bad 🍭😋
We are completely obsessed by ‘Cane Trains’ and the process of harvesting and growing this variety of grass that in its raw state contains only about 15% sugar #addictedtocanejuice 🍹
Gumby’s Parents visit Cairns, Undara Lava Tubes and Mission Beach. Really enjoyable weekend and a wonderful adventure further inland.
Gumby’s parents come up for a visit and planned a wicked trip out to Undara Caves. This place is a nice surprise when you arrive here, on the 4 hour drive from Cairns, the country changes dramatically, from lush green rainforest, to dry bushland with bits of basalt. The Undara Caves is also a caravan park and motel, a very unusual motel made of restored railway carriages that are turned into rooms. Undara is home to some of the largest networks of lava tubes formed around 190,000 years ago by volcanic activity through the Atherton Tablelands. Gumby's Mum made some epic sandwiches for the roadtrip.
Jackey Jackey a Muswellbrook Aboriginal became the unlikely hero of Kennedy's expedition when he and Kennedy, the last two remaining crew on the expedition arrived at Escape River not far from Port Albany, Kennedy's intended destination, only to be met by an onslaught of spears from local aboriginals. Kennedy died during the attack, however Jackey Jackey, despite being wounded himself wadded through a creek for nearly a fortnight to reach Cape York and meet with a ship waiting for the expedition to arrive. Jackey Jackey relayed the sad details of the expedition and the ship immediately set sail to find surviving members of the crew, who were left by Kennedy at various places along the east coast. A botanist, Willam Carron and labourer, William Goddard were the only other survivors of Kennedy's ill-fated expedition. Jackey Jackey was idolised for his attempts to save Kennedy and the rest of the crew and was rewarded with alcohol for his efforts. Tragically he became an alcoholic and rolled to his death into a fire six years later.
